With a full week of Weird Contests scheduled in Ocean City, NJ, USA, we couldn’t help but mention it today here at NightSkyLanterns.co.uk. It is the sort of festival atmosphere where sky lanterns would be perfect and is also the type of festival that the UK is lacking. The Weird Contest week could be just the thing to break up the festival schedules around this land as well and could provide an outlet for all types of creativity that are currently not available.

One of the novel parts of the Weird Contest Week is that there are only a few contests which repeat year after year and there are always completely new and unique contests created for the yearly festival. For example, this year, the two newest weird contests are the ear wiggling contest and a contest focused on using paperclips as an art medium. There is also the ever popular Little Miss and Mr. Chaos contest which encourages young children to be as noisy as possible for two minutes with prizes for the winner. In this contest, the children are given pots and pans and other items to be creative with their noise.

We here at NightSkylanters.co.uk would love to suggest a sky lantern themed contest. We realize that our lanterns are far too mundane in their usual form to be part of Weird Contest week but floating lanterns could be a great starting place for all types of creative endeavours. Judges could judge our Chinese Hanging Lanterns on originality in the art floating by or simply a Wackiest use of a paper lantern contest, perhaps? We encourage responsible use of our sky lanterns but we also know they have creative uses as well.

From launches of lanterns adorned with decorations that are beautiful to floating lanterns with writing cursing Manchester’s next opponent to flights of fancy beyond description, the floating lantern is a great medium for creativity.

On top of being a vessel for creativity, the sky lanterns we sell are all environmentally friendly. We realize that New Jersey has a bad reputation for environmental issues but we have it on good authority that most of New Jersey is beautiful. Sky lantern’s environmentally friendly nature makes them a great choice for any gathering from the mundane to the weird and will keep those who are concerned about the environment above all else happy with the launching of Chinese Hanging Lanterns into the evening sky. As they float away, know that when they land they will begin degrading almost immediately and all of our lanterns are wire free, meaning the degradation time is much less and there is no worry of injury to livestock or wildlife while they are in the process of going from lantern to being part of the environment. For the person looking to do something a little weird in the UK while New Jersey residents take part in Weird Contest week, floating Chinese Hanging Lanterns could be a good start to some weird fun.
