With the excitement of the Tour de France winding down and a winner declared yesterday with pomp and circumstance, it is a good time to celebrate. The Tour this year provided a third win for the Spanish rider Alberto Contador and in the spirit of celebrating his third win, launching sky lanterns would be a great way to celebrate this achievement.

On top of Alberto Contador winning the Tour de France, there are other Tour de France related reasons to launch floating lanterns. Lance Armstrong announced that he was done and at the age of 38, likely will fully retire this time around. For many, he was a hero and an inspiration after battling and surviving cancer then winning seven Tour de France victories as well as countless other races. For others, his retirement is something that will be celebrated because of the perceived taint that he has put on professional cycling with his seven wins. There is a hatred towards him in France that is normally reserved for those who have done things far worse. For both camps, floating lanterns are a good choice. For those for Lance Armstrong, some yellow coloured floating lanterns would be an excellent choice to celebrate his career and his support of cancer research. For those who are happy he will be out of the public eye or worse, Night Sky Lantern’s cylindrical lanterns are an excellent choice for writing choice words or pictures on.

A beach launch with good winds could actually carry many of our lanterns across the English Channel to France, however on a typical day; Chinese Hanging Lanterns will fly up to fifteen miles and can reach a height of up to 1200 feet. If they do reach the shores of France, know that they land and begin degrading almost immediately. All of our lanterns are now wire free, meaning no problems with livestock eating wires or other potential problems while they degrade and the time it takes to be fully degraded has dropped by eliminating the wire.

Celebrating the Tour de France with an evening of Chinese traditional lanterns is easy. They are easy to use and are easy to setup as well. Remove them from the package, unfold them and light the pre-attached, single use fuel cell and send the paper lantern on its way. Launch three to celebrate Alberto Contador’s three Tour de France victories, seven for Lance Armstrong’s or more simply to lament that professional cycling’s biggest event is over for another year. For those with cancer research in mind, sky lanterns can be a great tool to get the word out for this very worthy cause; maybe not as good as the controversy surrounding Lance’s team wanting to change jerseys to show their cancer cause off to the world but still a very good way to send the message. You can even add sharpie brand permanent markers to any order to make sure that those messages are visible as your Chinese Hanging Lanterns float off into the evening’s sky.
