For English football fans, today is the day that the English loss can be redeemed. Argentina did not get the job done and frankly looked like a semi-pro team against Germany; but there is hope in Spain. Spain’s football team for the World Cup this year went in ranked second and since Brazil was knocked out in the quarter finals, they are now the top ranked team going into their Semi-Final match against Germany. Germany has surprised many with their performance since group play, besting England four to one in Round of 16 play, even though the score should have been, at a minimum four to TWO had the officials made the right call on a fairly obvious goal. Should Spain win today and send Germany into the third place match, we will likely call it even and not hold a grudge for the next four years. The same can’t be said for the football fans at the local pub though as it will fuel years of debate. Today’s match, however, cannot be directly influenced by the football fan trapped in England, however, sky lanterns offer a way to support the efforts of Spain today going into the Semi-Finals.

Sky lantern’s have been used for thousands of years and have a couple traditional uses. The original Chinese lanterns were used as a way to signal armies to attack, retreat and other commands, depending on the colour of the floating lanterns being launched. They were also used in ancient Chinese culture as a way of taking prayers to the heavens. While the ancient Chinese likely had no idea they would one day be used to support footballer’s winning a close match, the idea of them being used to encourage the winning of a battle is in line with their ancient use. While the battle may be on a soccer field with rules, there is, in general, some honour to the sport. Germany may have forgotten this in the Round of 16 play but they too play the game in an honourable way for the most part as well.

While launching sky lanterns prior to the match or as a way to thank the cosmos for rebalancing the universe when Germany loses, White Cylindrical Lanterns are a great way to do so. These floating lanterns are over a metre tall and can be written on as well. In fact, while ordering any of our lanterns, you can have sharpie brand markers and disposable LED Tea Lights added to the order to ensure that you have everything you need in one place when it’s time to launch the lanterns. Send a group of lanterns up with a message to your team of choice going into today’s quarter final match or to the heavens in hopes your teams win and progress to the finals.
