Today the WSOP or World Series of Poker announced the schedule for the 2011 tournament. WSOP events are televised throughout the world and have contributed greatly to the resurgence in popularity of poker in the US and the UK. Especially popular are Stud, Omaha and the top poker game, Texas Hold ‘Em. While you may not be able to get to a World Series of Poker qualifying tournament to be eligible for the $1 million Las Vegas tournament, you can hold a poker party in your own home and incorporate flying lanterns into the entertainment.

You can have your own version of a WSOP tournament in your own home. You can play for fun, play for money or even have a benefit. All you need to do is have a buy in for the tournament. If you want to play for fun, simply allot a certain number of poker chips per person who is participating. If it is for real money, though, have everyone pay their entry fee and then their chips are given upon receipt. You can choose first through third to get their share of the pot. Or you can award a small prize or trinket and donate the entire pot to a good cause. If you are unfamiliar with how a tournament should be run, simply research it on the Internet and download a bracket. They are easy to follow and a lot of fun.

Go through each round with people advancing and people being eliminated until you get to the final round. After the entire tournament is over you can launch flying lanterns as a means to celebrate and to honour the winners. You can use novelty sky lanterns such as the happy face flying lanterns or just traditional coloured lanterns in a variety of different colours. You can even customise them by writing fun sayings or drawing poker related images on the lanterns. A great ideal to incorporate flying lanterns into a home poker party is to add the names of the winners on each flying lantern. You can launch the flying lanterns one at a time in descending order then launch a large group all at once. Each winner can watch “their” flying lantern drift into the night sky and can even launch them themselves. Once the individual recognition is over with the flying lanterns you can then launch a group of them.

After a fun night of playing poker with friends ending the evening with everyone outside launching flying lanterns is a great way to add even more excitement to an already fun time. Poker is a lot of fun and increasingly popular in the UK and around the world. However, not everyone can afford to play high stakes at a casino. So why not have some fun with lower buy ins or simply play for fun with your friends? You can even get creative with prizes. You are limited only by your imagination. But don’t forget to always have flying lanterns on hand to end the evening with some flair!
