Charity Work

Night Sky Lanterns are proud to support one of the UK's largest Charities, Cancer Research UK.

Cancer Research UK were formed in February 2002 due to a merger between the Imperial Cancer Research Fund and the Cancer Research Campaign. They consequently have over 100 years of experience in Cancer Research. Cancer Research UK work with over 4,500 scientists, doctors and nurses in Hospitals, Universities and research institutes.

1 in 3 people in the UK will develop Cancer at some point during their lives. Most people know someone who has been affected by Cancer as Cancer accounts for a quarter of all deaths in the United Kingdom.

There are over 200 variations of Cancer so finding a cure is not simple. Each Cancer reacts in a different way to each individual and each individual acts differently to the various treatments available. It couldn't be anymore complex.

Around 300,000 people a year are diagnosed with Cancer with the most common types being Breast, Skin, Lung, Bowel and Prostate.

Cancer Research UK have spent over £355 million on research carried out during 2008 / 2009. They have invested a further £15 million in cancer information and advocacy work. Cancer Research UK are extremely proud to say that, excluding retail, for every £1.00 they receive, 80p will go directly to their science.

Over 90% of the UK population lives no more than 30 miles away from a Cancer Research UK research site. This includes hospitals that are involved in over 180 clinical trials founded by Cancer Research UK.

Night Sky Lanterns would like to help to support Cancer Research UK and have developed a range of products available on the website all of which include a donation to this fantastic cause. To see our Cancer Research UK packages, please click here.

Sky Lanterns are now used in so many events including Birthdays, Weddings, Parties etc, but they can also used to commemorate the passing of a loved one. When deciding which Charity to support, we took note of the comments people were leaving with their orders. It became clear to us that a proportion of our customers were purchasing Sky Lanterns to either celebrate the life of a loved one who had lost their life because of Cancer, or won their battle against Cancer with the help of modern research and treatments.

We would love to do our bit to helpsso please take a look at our Cancer Research UK Packages!
