What are Flying Lanterns?

Flying Lanterns are known by a variety of names such as Chinese Lanterns, Sky Lanterns, Wish Lanterns, Paper Lanterns and many others, but they are essentially the same thing. Flying lanterns are airborne paper lanterns traditionally found in China and other countries, where they dont actually fly at all, but are used for business decoration and celebrations. They are constructed from oiled rice paper on a bamboo frame, and contain a small fuel cell to rpovide the heat. Once the fuel cell is burnt up, the flying lanterns fall gently out of the sky. They are seen flying across the UK and other countries at specific times of the year, or during wedding or birthday celebrations.
