Beginning at sundown tonight is the celebration of Rosh Hashanah which for Jewish people around the globe is their calendar’s New Year. For people of the Jewish faith, this is a time of reflection and also a time to fix mistakes made the past year. It is also a time to make resolutions for the year to come and what better way to let those resolutions soar than with the addition of sky lanterns?

Sky Lanterns and New Years Celebrations

One of the original uses of the floating Chinese Hanging Lanterns was to celebrate the New Year in ancient China. They would be set aloft in massive quantities with messages written on them for hopes for the coming year. These yearly launches would be augmented with launches periodically throughout the year by individuals or families seeking special favor with the spiritual deities that the ancient Chinese believed in.

Since this time, the use of Chinese Hanging Lanterns as part of New Years celebrations has spread from ancient China to modern China and more recently to the New Years celebrated by most of the world at the end of December. Each year, more and more New Years celebrations around the globe have the addition of Chinese Hanging Lanterns as part of their celebrations.

Rosh Hashanah and Sky Lanterns

With other major New Years celebrations incorporating sky lanterns, Rosh Hashanah’s beginning at dusk and the somberness of the three day celebration all make an excellent pairing with sky lanterns. With the goal of the Jewish New Year being to make up for mistakes for the past year and make them right as well as make resolutions for the New Year, both can be worked on with Chinese Hanging Lanterns . Launching floating lanterns with apologies can get the messages through to the world in a somewhat anonymous way. When it comes to mark resolutions, writing them down helps make them more memorable and almost makes them a pact with one’s self as well. Sending them off into the evening sky is an excellent way to remember the resolution so it can be acted on by the person who wrote it. The beauty of the paper lantern and the perfect moment of it floating away burned into the memory of the person launching the lantern will ensure that the resolutions will be upheld.

Sky Lanterns Work for Any Celebration

This evening through Friday may be Rosh Hashanah but there are plenty of other holidays around the year for people of all faiths where Sky Lanterns would make a great addition to the holiday’s planning. In fact, has other products as well that are appropriate for use at gatherings of all types. From water lanterns to our dove shaped environmentally friendly balloons, there is a product that would fit with just about any celebration or gathering. With a little imagination, your next hosting event, whatever it may be, can be a success with the inclusion of sky lanterns or other products from!
