July is parks and recreation month. What better way to celebrate this occasion than to get out into the great outdoors and launch some Chinese lanterns? Chinese lanterns are steeped in tradition and they continue this tradition today. Chinese lanterns were first used during warfare and then were used for more festive occasions. Today, Chinese lanterns are used strictly for festive occasions and you can often see them at birthday parties, anniversaries and weddings. Many people launch sky lanterns just for the fun of it to add an element of excitement to any occasion. During parks and recreation month this July, why not launch some Chinese lanterns at a park as a means of recreation with friends and family?

It is important to make sure that Chinese lanterns are launched during calm days. Do not attempt to launch them when it is windy or there is inclement weather of any sort. It is also important for safety reasons to make sure there are no obstructions such as tall buildings to impede the progress of the Chinese lantern or to pose a fire hazard. Parks are the ideal location to launch Chinese lanterns as they are often clear, flat spaces with no immediate tall buildings around. But, before you launch the Chinese lanterns make sure doing so is allowed at the park you choose.

July’s parks and recreation month is a great time to get together with friends and family for a day of fun. You can play games and have a cook out in the beauty of the outdoors. As the sun goes down you can end the evening by launching sky lanterns into the night sky. The more you launch the more the sky will be aglow with the amazing sight of the Chinese lanterns littering the night sky. Traditional sky lanterns are perfect for these types of occasions and you can even personalise them with the use of sharpie markers. You can do this during the day when you take a break in between other activities.

Simply use a sharpie marker and create drawings, write sayings or send up well wishes by writing personalised messages on the sky lanterns. Or, you can use coloured Chinese lanterns or the ever popular novelty Chinese lanterns that are perfect for any occasion. Football Chinese lanterns are popular and the smiley sky lanterns are also very popular. They are a great way to add some fun and excitement to any family or friendly get together.

If you haven’t had a family day lately or if you haven’t gotten together with your friends for a great day of fun together, this is the perfect month to do that. In celebration of Parks and Recreation Month, have a get together at a park near you. You can have a day of picnicking, games and enjoying one another’s company during the day. To end the evening have everyone launch some Chinese lanterns. Choose from any of the different varieties and watch the Chinese lanterns float into the night sky to create a wondrous display.
