Today is Queen Elizabeth II’s birthday. Although the public holiday for this special occasion is celebrated in June, her actual birthday is today. In June the ceremony of Trooping the Colour will occur as well as the Birthday Honours. As a national holiday this is one of the most revered days. However, we should still acknowledge the Queen’s birthday on her actual birthday. What better way to celebrate than to release some sky lanterns to commemorate this special day?

A Birthday Celebration fit for a Queen

If you have a get together, this is an ideal time to use sky lanterns to send well wishes and birthday greetings to the Queen. If it is just you and your family, each member can create a personalized message and then release the sky lanterns into the air. First, remove the wrapping on all the individually wrapped sky lanterns. Make sure you have enough for every person. Then pass around sharpie markers to each person. Each person should write a special message such as:

· Special birthday greetings

· Well wishes

· Prayers for continued health

· Memories of events that made an impact on you

What you write is limited only by your imagination. Once everyone has completed their messages you can then gather outside for the sky lantern launching ceremony.

Sky Lanterns Traditionally Mean Good Luck

Traditionally, sky lanterns are released for good luck. They are often used in celebrations such as weddings, anniversaries or birthdays. So, the Queen’s birthday is the ideal time to send out personalized messages into the sky for a double dose of good luck. Arrange all the sky lanterns and make sure the fuel cells are attached. Once this is done, everyone can light theirs. One at a time release the sky lanterns into the sky. As the last one floats into the air you will see the sky aglow with the warm illumination from the lanterns. Not only will you be following a time honoured tradition of well wishes by releasing the night sky lanterns into the air but you will have a spectacular display that can be seen for several miles. Set the example for your friends and neighbours by starting a tradition of celebrating the Queen’s birthday on her actual day of birth.

Choosing Sky Lanterns for Celebrations

It is always a good idea to keep some spare sky lanterns on hand for special occasions and impromptu gatherings. They store well and are compact. Choose sky lanterns in several different colours and sizes to suit every occasion. A lovely display in the sky consists of all different sizes of sky lanterns. They make a beautiful arrangement that everyone within sight will appreciate. Also make sure you have a supply of sharpie markers so that you can have everyone who is releasing a sky lantern personalize it with their own message, prayer or wishes.

Sky lanterns are the ideal addition to any party. All birthdays can be celebrated by releasing sly lanterns for good luck and the Queen is no exception.  Celebrate this honoured day with good luck wishes from you, your family and friends.
